Natural diamonds are still the default choice when it comes to buying an engagement ring. Lack of awareness that an alternative exists is the first challenge, but this is quickly followed by a lack of belief in the possibilities of lab created stones.

Years of claims over exaggerated claims by companies have made people wary that man made diamonds could really live up to the real (natural) thing. Many of these companies still exist but by proving ourselves and our product to every customer who gives us the opportunity we are gradually building momentum.

Today though we've had another story from a customer who has recently purchased a ring from us (Fairfax with 1.5ct stone). Being quite a substantial stone the ring was noticed by a jeweller when browsing in a renowned boutique jewellery establishment. The jeweller asked to look at the ring and after examining it (ar length and with magnification) he exclaimed, "Wow that must have cost you a fortune, it's an almost perfect quality diamond! One of the finest specimens I've seen". Our customer decided to let the jeweller believe just that, agreed and never revealed that it was in fact not a natural diamond.

This is not a fluke though, every singe jeweller that has ever examined our stones literally cannot believe they are not natural diamonds. MADE Diamonds are visually identical to the finest mined diamonds, but this is no accident, they are the product of years of technological development.

As new technologies infiltrate society, the world as we know it is changing. New technologies don't just get picked up by the masses all of a sudden, it takes gradual advancement which often begins with the more forward thinking, innovators and thought leaders of society leading the way. These people pick up on new ideas and spread them to their friends, fuelling a gradual advancement and change.

Rather than embracing the possibilities of a new technology, they are far too entrenched in the past. It would cost too much to change! So the position becomes one of defence, defence of their out dated products, practices and viewpoints. Do you think the old typewriter companies became computer companies we know today? Hell no. They viscously defended their position and rubbished the emerging computer industry.

The natural diamond industry is much the same. All they are interested in is defending their territory. Even though there is now a better way, it's not feasible for them to move from their position of strength, so the de facto message becomes "nothing compares to a natural diamond", and the task of maintaining the social standing of natural diamonds as the only engagement ring option continues.
